Our fifth goal on HelpSaveMyDollars.com’s “Financial Goal Week of 2010” focuses on benefiting from your interests, talents and hobbies.
You may be working in an industry that does not interest you. In fact, you probably wake up every Monday morning in a bad mood because it’s the start of the work week at a job you dislike! If you love your job, that’s fantastic! However, many people work in fields that simply don’t coincide with their talents or personality. This is why HelpSaveMyDollars.com wants you to make it a goal for 2010 to do something you like and to get a hobby – even if it does not spawn a financial benefit. If you like to cook, try finding new recipes and start your own personal recipe book. Once you’ve created a multitude of your own recipes, you might want to start a website and share all of your recipes online! If you like music, pick-up a new instrument or continue playing the instrument you’ve always played.
Hobbies can often distract you from the stress your job may cause. Even if you love your job, it’s still a good idea to broaden your horizons and find something else you like by getting a hobby.
So what does this have to do with money? It is unclear as to where your hobby might lead to. Maybe you could turn your hobby into a successful business or a best-selling book. Having hobby that you truly enjoy can boost your self-esteem (which is critical for success), make you a stronger person and ultimately lead to future possible money making opportunities!
