The holiday shopping season of 2009 is coming to an end, but luckily for retailers and the economy, spending increased 3.6%, during the time from November 1st to December 24th from the same time period last year, according to the latest MasterCard Advisors SpendingPulse report.  In fact, in 2008 from November 1st to December 24th, consumer spending actually dropped by 2.3%. These numbers come as a surprise to many considering that the unemployment rate is currently 10%, which is much higher than the 7.2% jobless rate in December 2008.  If people are unemployed, they have less money to spend on holiday gifts...FULL STORY
