As we head into the heart of summer, now’s the perfect time to shed light on a few popular travel-related apps that will save you money. The best part? They are all completely free.

1. KAYAK

The KAYAK app is the definitive app for finding hotels in your price range. It uses your phones GPS technology to find the closest hotels in any price range. This is a great app for last minute travelers who don’t have a lot of time to plan as it lets you book your hotel room right on your phone. You can also track your flight status and look up baggage fees.

2. Gas Buddy

Use the Gas Buddy app to fill up your rental car on the cheap. The app will help you find the cheapest gas station on your vacation. Also, the app will give you turn-by-turn directions to the gas station so you won’t waste petrol driving around looking for a reasonably priced station.

3. Trip Advisor

Ever wondered if a specific tour or vacation outing was worth the money? Use the Trip Advisor app to read reviews by fellow travelers so you can make an informed decision on whether or not you should spend your money. Also, use Trip Advisor to read reviews on hotels and restaurants so your hard earned money gets you the best experience possible.

4. Meal Ticket

The Meal Ticket app lets you find local eateries and brings hundreds of restaurant coupons right to your fingertips. Nothing to print as the app will give you instant savings. All you have to do is flash the coupon to your server and collect your savings.

5. Yelp!

Yelp! helps you find the nearest restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and gas stations and read user added reviews. It will help you save money and stay on your vacation budget by informing you what the restaurant costs before you walk in the door. The app actually lets you view restaurants by average price per plate so you can make an informed decision.

Love the site, and these are perfect! If there is anything I
need help with, it’s saving money when I travel. It always seems like it’s the
little things that add up more than say, the plane ticket, because once the
flight is booked, you don’t really think about it again. But hotels and gas can
really ad up, as well as eating out every night. One thing I always found we
spent money on was pay per view movies in the hotel; at the end of the day you
just want to relax and there’s never any good TV on, so you end up renting some
Pixar movie the kids have already seen a hundred times. To combat this cost I
use this remote access app I picked up through my job at Dish. It gives me access
to live and recorded programming off my home receiver from anywhere in the
world I can get a wifi or 3G connection. This way we can DVR some movies in
advance or watch one of our favorite shows in the hotel instead of shelling out
eight or nine bucks for some second rate flick none of us really even want to
see. We just all pile together on the bed, pop some microwave popcorn, and set
    the iPad up.
